The Elves and the Shoemaker was first issued in 1965, just as Ladybird was switching over from issuing books with colourful dustwrappers and plain coloured boards to having the colourful illustrations printed straight onto the boards. This book and all the subsequent books in the series was never issued with a dustwrapper.
